Afrolights - Shine your own light to banish the darkness
Christine Natasha Smith (see pic below) is a mother, artist, teacher and what she likes to call 'creator of magic'. The Afrolights are her current project, a dynamic duo (her children) who are on a mission to bring positivity and light to a world where darkness and doubt seeps into corners waiting to infect our youth - but with the right teaching - which the Afrolights are armed with, plus their innate powers, children can find the positivity from within and shine their own lights to banish the darkness.
Meet Joss, the founder of JOSSY CARE
Described as the UK's leading "Super Manny", Joss Simmons grew up in a town called Hackney in London, UK and is taking modern childcare to the next level, defying the odds to give back to the next generation.
As a child, witnessing his mother suffer domestic violence had a profound effect on Joss and he knows only to well where many children, who have odds stacked against them, end up. That led him to create his own childcare service, Jossy Care.
His positive approach is what is gaining him the attention of parents, practitioners, the media and as a childcare practitioner, Joss is also keen to address stereotypes in the childcare industry. Hence, Joss has spoken out on the topic of male nannies being refused jobs on the basis of their gender and the difficulty they face.
In 2017, Joss gave his first public talk about his experience and hasn't looked back ever since. Multi talented Joss is now frequently invited to deliver motivational talks on topics such as depression, domestic violence, children and the future.
Joss recently featured in Time out, Hackney Gazette and East London Radio. He has also won the National Diversity Award 2019 and is currently up for Best Social Media Nanny with Nanny UK Nanny.

Our new generation of girlpreneurs
Kemi and Kiisha Oguntayo love arts and crafts, baking, playing dress up and reading! They were 4 and 6 years old when they created the brand Kishem with the support of their parents in Summer 2016. They had the idea to create the Kishem colouring book after asking their mum and dad why there weren't colouring books with all types of children who look like them or their friends in school. Their Dad said "girls, problems are meant for solving" so they decided to try making their own.
"We wanted the book to have different types of children who are all talented and unique. It was also important to make it more than just a colouring book so after creating and naming each character, we added short stories about them, what they enjoy doing and what they aspire to be so that other children reading can get inspired too" say the girlpreneurs.
The characters in Kishem's storybooks are powerful, talented, creative, entrepreneurial girls.
- Zhen is a photographer and you get to see her editing in her studio
- Mya is good at cooking
- Kishem loves karate and sports
- Eve is a great swimmer
- Ruby makes jewellery
- Amor loves technology
..... and so on and so forth!!!
To date, Kishem is well on course. Kemi and Kiisha have been able to show their books in UK schools, shipped their books to America and had requests from Africa. Their multicultural characters offer representation for every girl and ethnic group represented in Western schools nowadays.

Meet Omari McQueen, 10 year old CEO of Dipalicious
Budding business mogul Omari McQueen is set to impress foodies with his new vegan dip business, Dipalicious. At just ten years old, Omari is already the proud owner not only of his own food company, but a YouTube channel, 'The Mari Maker Show', where he enthuses about homemade vegan dishes and shows fans at home how to recreate them in style.
As one of six children, he learned how to cook very quickly from watching his mum and dad prepare large meals daily, and it wasn't long before he was rustling up his own culinary creations for family and friends, inspired by his Jamaican background and his love of great flavours! While making a vegan pizza, Omari decided to create a dip to accompany it – and the idea for Dipalicious was born.
Overcoming his natural shyness whena he's in the kitchen, Omari has always loved to cook, and creates all the dips he sells himself, before sharing them with the world via the Dipalicious website. As well as being tasty and nutritious, each dip is also 100% vegan approved, ensuring a healthy and ethical way to eat, all while supporting a new business venture from one of the UK's brightest young entrepreneurial talents.
The brand officially launched in 2017 when Omari was only eight, and the delicious flavours on offer currently include Caribbean Kick, Sweet Tooth and Coco Curry– each winning glowing reviews. Dipalicious is going from strength to strength as Omari experiments with new flavours to create vegan dips sure to suit even the most discerning palette.
"I want to create food which everyone can enjoy," says Omari. "That's what great food is all about, to me – it's a way to bring people closer together, and that's what I hope to do with Dipalicious."
When he's not building his brand, Omari enjoys spending time at home with his family and loves to dance along to his musical hero Michael Jackson.
Find out more about the brand and try the dips for yourself at the official website www.dipalicious.co.uk - Instagram @dipaliciousdips - twitter@omarimcqueen - Facebook @dipalicious
At Dipalicious we sell a range of Vegan dips with the aim to provide healthy snack food to everyone no matter their dietary needs.
Kishem, entrepreneurship at its best!!
Kemi and Kiisha, aged 8 and 6 years olds, are just so cool! It's Saturday 2nd June and the girls' brand Kishem (a blend of both of their names) holds a stall at Camden market. On the table, there are numerous gorgeous items so very girly: badges, keyrings, lucky dip sachets, cookies, colouring books.... Kemi is pointing at the illustration of their lead character dressed Wakanda style. I ask her if she watched Black Panther and naturally this 8 year old Tycoon has. Moreover, she has her own tag line for it "Wakanda rock". I proceed looking at all the items and I am totally in love with them and Kishem's concept.
There is no doubt in my mind that being a little girl again, I would simply love rocking "Kishem style". In fact, all of us ladies present, secretly love all of the characters of Kishem's world and would happily get colouring the pages of the story book there and then. Kishem's oldest sister's favorite is Afia because this character loves science. Unsurprisingly, Kishem's sister loves science herself. And that is the point, that's what we call Positive Representation. These characters in Kishem's storybooks are neither princesses, nor ballerinas. They are powerful, talented, creative, entrepreneurial girls.

..... and so on and so forth!!!
These two little girls totally achieved what they set out to do one day of Summer 2016.
"We got the idea to create the Kishem colouring book after asking our mum and dad why there weren't colouring books with all types of children who look like us or our friends in school. Our Dad said "girls problems are meant for solving" (he says that all the time), so we decided to make our own" .... "We wanted the book to have different types of children who are all talented and unique. It was also important to make it more than just a colouring book so after creating and naming each character, we added short stories about them and what they enjoy doing. We think all children have something special about them and we hope this book helps them to realise that they are really cool and that they can do anything".
Two years down the line, Kishem has been able to show their books in UK schools, shipped their books to America, had requests from Africa. I have no doubt Kishem will continue to go from strength to strength. Their multicultural characters offer representation for every girl and ethnic group they represent in our schools nowadays, especially in the UK.

I wish all the very best to these two precious stars on their Kishem's Journey and have been delighted to meet them. They are greatly inspiring!
